About the Item

Pair of armchairs, velvet, beech, metal, France, 1950s These French mid-century easy chairs balance traditional craftsmanship with a pared-down modern silhouette. At first glance, their gently sloped backs and subtly rounded arms suggest a nod to classic club chairs, but the clean lines, tapered legs, and sleek structure lean toward the more streamlined, modern style emerging in the postwar era. The front legs taper gently toward the floor, while the rear legs curve gracefully to meet the back of the frame. A neat row of metal studs runs along the perimeter of the armrests. The chairs are upholstered in olive green velvet, seamlessly merging with the darkened wood. These pieces perfectly capture the fusion of classic French elegance and the progressive simplicity that defined 1950s design. Please note that we advise reupholstery before use. This item contains threadbare upholstery with small stains and wear marks. Reupholstery can be done before shipping by our experienced craftspeople in our own in-house restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece retains its value and is ready for the many years to come.
