About the Item

Pair of lounge chairs, straw, stained wood, France, 1940s This piece of furniture embodies an evolved provincial character with great quality of elegance. The sincere construction and type of upholstery, give the chair a character of its own. The seat and back feature a rush seat created by using a weaving technique where long, dried grass-like vegetation is used. The way the frame is constructed, like the carvings in the front legs and the armrests, allude to the characteristic design period of France in the 40s. Furthermore, the style refers to the signature style of Charles Dudouyt (1885-1946). The warm dark color of the wooden frame complements perfectly with the definition of the straw material. Its simple and pure exterior will come forward nicely in a relaxing atmosphere, like a patio or a studio space. Please note that one armrest contains a small fissure. In addition, the straw is in used condition with wear. Restoration is possible before shipping by our experienced craftsman and -women in our own in-house restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece retains its value and is ready for the many years to come. We kindly ask you to contact our design experts for further information about the endless possibilities our restoration and upholstery atelier has to offer. Of course, a locally organized restoration is possible as well.
