Fritz Neth "Madame" Chair with Original Beige Velvet Upholstery, Germany, 1950s

About the Item

An all-original example of the Madame chair by Fritz Neth for Correcta, Germany, 1950s. Wonderful organic sculptural design, which is both stylish and extremely comfortable. These chairs do not often come to market, especially in nice vintage condition, so we have elected to offer this piece in its original form. The original fabric is a light beige/green, in the style of short-haired velvet, and there is wear to the upholstery consistent with age and use. The foam interior has some light surface deterioration (crunching) as one might expect; there is some creasing to the fabric in those areas and there are areas of wear and light marks to the fabric in line with use. New upholstery would be advised for regular use (and for this reason we have categorized this piece as in "fair" condition) however the chair remains useable and comfortable as it is; for us it presents well with its own vintage character, and considerable charm. The legs are finished in brass, which has developed an aged patina and there is some wear to the metal and to the metal/rubber of the feet. Approximate dimensions: H 94 cm (to top of wings) x W 80 cm (at wings) x D 83 cm overall Seat height at the front is approximately 40 cm and in the centre a little lower (around 8 cm lower). Please note: If you're thinking of re-upholstering this chair, the dimensions may change accordingly.

  • Large Bernard Rooke Table or Floor Lamp with Original Shade
    By Bernard Rooke
    Located in London, GB
A monumental and unusual lamp by British potter, Bernard Rooke. An early piece, probably dating from the 1960s, and initialled BR on the side. Large-scale single-piece Rooke lamps are rare to see - kiln size often a limiting-factor - particularly with an original shade. The base is hand-built, with the lower section finished in a glaze of green/grey. The upper part is glazed showing natural terracotta tones and features raised patterns and piercing, finishing in pierced loops at the top. Both the base and shade are in good original condition, with normal wear from age and use and the hand-making process. A firing crack to the interior flat section of the base appears stable, and is not visible in use. Wiring: The original wiring has been removed and will need to be replaced in the country of install to meet local needs. The lamp-holder takes a bayonet-fitting bulb and we recommend low-heat models to protect this piece for the future. Shade: The lamp has its original shade, which is rare, and this one is an unusual size for Rooke designs. Overall it has retained pretty good shape, with a little "ovalling", minor marks and occasional short crack to the liner. The fitting is a duplex...
