About the Item
A 1960's molded plywood lounge chair and ottoman by George Mulhauser. The chair features stylish wing-like arms, tufted cream uber soft colored vinyl, and a swivel base. The chair was restored and reupholstered. The base of the chair and the base of the ottoman differ slightly (see images). The chrome base on the chair has some wear and imperfections (see images). The ottoman sits in its base (it is in 2 pieces). A wonderful combination of mid-century design and timeless comfort.
Plycraft was initially known for making boats in the early 1950s (hence the name 'Plycraft'). Plycraft was eager to break into furniture, utilizing their own technology. They became the bent ply manufacturer for Directional with Mulhauser designing a whole line for Plycraft around 1959. It appears that the Mr. Chair was their first truly mass-produced (and successful) piece of furniture. Own a great example of this iconic mid-century bent plywood design.

Mid-Century Modern Mr. Chairs designed by George Mulhauser. There’s something indescribably awesome about these Mulhauser chairs in tufted white upholstery. Cool, casual and comfortable in their skin. Anywhere they go, is exactly where they’re supposed to be. If these chairs became sentient, they would ask for a highball and a cigarette.
