Guillerme et Chambron, pair of easy chairs, pink fabric, oak, France, 1950s
A sculptural pair of easy chairs by Guillerme and Chambron that is very well executed and made out of solid, carved oak. These armchairs feature an interesting open construction, with sturdy, straight lines in combination with rounded corners and edges. The seating and back hold thick cushions, which are upholstered with a pink fabric. The back of the chair consists of vertical slats which are a typical decorative detail for Guillerme et Chambron.
The French designer duo Jacques Chambron (1914-2001) and Robert Guillerme (1913-1990) started their production in the Post-war period. The furniture pieces designed by this duo show a strong character and great expressive woodwork. The duo installed themselves in an old factory with the original machinery still present which was used to make rifles. Guillerme & Chambron saw the potential of these machines and decided to use them and continue production for their high back chairs. Every piece from the furniture line was made in small editions. They called their collection “Votre Maison” which means “Your home.”
