Ilmari Lappalainen Pulkka Lounge Chair and Ottoman

About the Item

Ilmari Lappalainen "Pulkka" lounge chair and ottoman, by Asko, Finland. Original white leather cushions with removable headrest and leather armrests, aluminum frame. The original white color on the leather has worn off in time on most of the surface showing the natural colored leather gleaming through, giving this piece a very distinct vintage look. The leather is still strong and supple and feeling very comfortable. The seat angle adjusts in the frame for a perfect seat angle, making this combo a dream to sit in. Chair: 30"w x 38"d x 28"h, ottoman: 22"w x 20"d x 13.5"h Ilmari Lappalainen (1910-1972) was a renowned Finnish furniture designer and architect, recognized for his contributions to mid-20th century design. He gained prominence in the 1940s and 1950s for his innovative use of materials and modernist aesthetic. Lappalainen is best known for his work with the furniture company Asko, where he designed elegant, functional pieces that exemplified the Scandinavian design ethos of simplicity, practicality, and beauty. His designs often incorporated natural wood and clean lines, reflecting the minimalist trends of the time. Lappalainen's work has left a lasting impact on Finnish and international design.
