About the Item

Mid-Century Modern low slung club chair after Harvey Probber (1922–2003) the influential American Mid Century Modern furniture designer born in Brooklyn, New York. A self-taught talent, Probber showed an early aptitude for design, famously sketching his first sofa at age 16 and selling it for ten dollars. After high school, he honed his skills at an upholstery manufacturer before founding Harvey Probber Inc. in 1945. His career-defining innovation came with the invention of the modular sofa, a flexible, geometrically inspired system that revolutionized modern furniture by prioritizing both aesthetics and adaptability. Unlike the minimalist, Bauhaus-influenced trends of his time, Probber embraced exotic, high-gloss woods and luxurious upholstery, reflecting his unique modernist vision. A man of diverse passions, he briefly considered a career as a pop singer and songwriter and once traded his beloved car for a Picasso, underscoring his deep commitment to art. As a designer, manufacturer, and industrialist, Probber built a legacy of creativity and craftsmanship that remains celebrated today. This chair boasts sculpted walnut legs with a curved, saber-shaped design and retains its stunning original microfiber fabric in a neutral cream hue. Perfect for a home or office, this elegant chair seamlessly complements a range of design aesthetics—from Modern to Contemporary to Mid Century Modern—adding a distinct touch of luxury, style, and comfort to any space it graces. As one of the last two remaining from an original set of four, claim it today before it’s gone for good. ---Dimensions--- Width: 29 in / 73.66 cm Depth: 30 in / 76.2 cm Height: 27 in / 68.58 cm Seat Height: 16 in / 40.64 cm Arm Height: 20.25 in / 51.44 cm This exquisite lounge chair is in 100% original, vintage condition and has aged to perfection! The solid walnut legs and frame are in excellent shape with one scratch visible (shown in the detail photos and natural light video provided) as well as other light surface scratches and nicks but showing no scracks, stains or other wear whatsoever. The original mint-green / cream-colored fabric is also in fabulous condition showing no rips, stains or odors whatsoever. As purists we strive to retain our pieces in as original condition as possible, however we do offer in-house upholstery services. If you're interested in re-upholstering this lounge chair in a fabric of your choosing please message us prior to checkout to discuss options and pricing. This elegantly-designed lounge chair is ultra-comfortable, structurally sound and ready for decades more of use. Please view all photos and video for details on this gorgeous chair's current condition. We're limited on the amount of media we can post so additional photos and videos are available upon request.
