About the Item

This vintage Mid-Century Modern armchair was designed in the 1950s by Don Shoemaker and produced by Señal, S.A., Mexico circa 1960. A leading midcentury Mexican modernist, Shoemaker’s pieces feature biomorphic shapes and exotic woods designed with traditional reference. This iconic sling chair is exceptionally crafted from rich cocobolo rosewood with striking grain utilizing innovative links and joints and features original black leather sling seat. This striking chair is a beautiful example of Mexican, Brazilian and Latin American Mid-Century Modern design quickly gaining popularity. Maker’s mark present. Additional information: Material: Rosewood, leather Dimensions: W 23 1/2” x D 27 3/4” x H 27 1/4” Seat Height: 15 1/2” Condition: Excellent vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use. Original leather is in excellent condition.

The chairs are made out of Cocobolo Rosewood and upholstered in the original black leather with decorative leather pins on the top and sides. The seats can adjust to four different positions and it can be folded flat to store away. Armrests fold up. Two chairs retain the original labels. CREATOR Don Shoemaker for Senal S.A., Mexico. DATE OF MANUFACTURE c.1960. MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES Leather, Cocobolo Rosewood. CONDITION Good. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor wear on the leather seats.
