Nya Berlin Acne Studios Chair 2010

About the Item

Nya Berlin chair designed in 2010 by Andreas Bozarth Fornell (born 1977), Christian Halleröd (born 1974) and Jonny Johansson (Creative Director and co-founder Acne Studios. Born 1969). A 3D distorted design of a classic Swedish Carl Malmsten sofa from the 1940s. Made in Sweden by and premiered at Karl Lagerfelds former home in Paris, France. A limited edition in the original blue silk upholstery. After implementing a new store concept for the fashion company, Acne Studios, both Malmstens educated designers Andrea Bozarth Fornell and Christian Halleröd started a sofa project together with Acne Studio's founder and creative director, Jonny Johansson. The idea was to start from a classic piece of Malmsten sofa that they found in the Carl Malmsten archive, designed in 1940 for the Swedish consulate in Berlin. The original sofa was measured and modelled in the computer and tests made to freeze different perspective views of the sofa to produce five different versions. They experimented with 3D forms of what the eye sees and froze perspectives from different angles, a similar process of sampling used at the Acne Studios fashion house. The premier took place in Paris, where four sofa models were presented at Karl Lagerfeld's former palace. The furniture was originally covered in washed denim looking fabrics in different colours. Later, woollen fabrics were chose. Andreas Bozarth Fornell is a trained cabinet maker from the eponymous Malmstensskolan, Christian Halleröd is a designer and also trained at Malstensskolan. In good condition, some minor marks, wear and stains to upholstery and painted legs.
