Pair of Danish 1940s Alfred Christensen Low Back Easy Chairs

About the Item

Classic pair of elegant Danish low back armchairs from the 1940s by Alfred Christensen for Slagelse Mobelvaerk with closed armrests in beautifully Cuban mahogany which is a bit unusual for Alfred Christensen as much of his furniture was produced during the 1940's when mahogany was no longer available due to WWII. Another unusual feature is the a piece of wood at the bottom of the seat to add an extra touch of luxury. Nice slim elegant silhouette. Solid and sturdy construction. These chairs have copper coils in both seat and backrest and are very comfortable. The chairs have been reupholstered at a later point and the fabric remains in usable condition but we recommend reupholstery. We do offer reupholstery service on these, however, at very competitive prices.

  • Easy Chair in Oak & Velour by Alfred Christensen for Slagelse Møbelværk, 1950s
    By Slagelse Mobelvaerk, Alfred Christensen
    Located in Odense, DK
Easy chair by designed by Alfred Christensen in the early 1950s and manufactured by Slagelse Møbelværk. This stunning chair has aged beautifully and the original velvet upholstery and wood finish has the perfect patina. Clean and pure lines define this armchair that are coupled with expert craftsmanship. Adopting the trend of abandoning ornamentation to benefit the form, Christensen maintained the beauty and warmth inherent to traditional Danish cabinetmaking. In consequence, this armchair has a beautiful, warm look with rounded edges and an open look. The only ornamentation is the piping cord that runs along the edges of the body. The unique colour of the original velour upholstery in combination with the stunning Scandinavian oakwood legs and arms create warm elegance, perfect to bring a modern touch to any space. While Danish designers, including Alfred Christensen, had many principles, above all, all designers...
