Parametric Morphogen King Throne

About the Item

Limited edition parametric throne made of solid teak wood. Unlike most parametric furniture (which are machine-made), this piece is entire made by hand. Each chair is unique and has a more rustic, organic finish vs. machine-made pieces. This piece is white-washed to achieve an airy aesthetic that fits in all spaces. This parametric throne is part of designer and architect John Brevard's Morphogen series. Derived from the Greek word morphê (meaning "beginning of the shape"), the Morphogen collection features composed organic shapes that abstract, pulled, and stretched into fluid forms. These web-like diffusions are reminiscent of morphogenesis, the biological process that causes an organism to develop its shape. These pieces can be made to order to fit your specifications. About the materials: Teakwood has long been prized for its durability and versatility. Long used for furniture and decoration by elites in its native Southeast Asia, teakwood then made its way to Europe by way of Dutch merchants. In the west, it’s often used for shipbuilding, due to its hardness and ability to withstand humidity and ward off dry rot. Unlike more common woods such as pine and oak, teak retains its natural oils and rubber even after being felled and processed. Because of this, teak has greater naturally weather-resistant properties than almost all other wood. The oils and rubber effectively weatherproof the wood, making teak an ideal choice for outdoor furniture. The wood is also naturally protected from dry rot and from fungi and parasites that can destroy other woods. Given the long growth period of teak (typically 80 years until maturation), Brevard uses sustainably cultivated teak without irrigation or fertilizers for this collection in order to protect earth’s natural habitat. All pieces are made with the highest quality (Grade A) teak from the heart of the tree to ensure maximum durability and versatility. About John Brevard: John Brevard is a luxury lifestyle brand founded by American architect and designer John Brevard in 2007. • Hand Carved High Back Witco Tiki Throne King Chairs in Faux Leopard Fur
By Witco, William Westenhaver / Witco
    Located in Chattanooga, TN
Take a walk on the wild side, or maybe just have a seat there with scepter in hand. Each anthropomorphic gorilla-arm-chair has been recovered in high-quality, cruelty free, faux-fur that very much resembles the look and feel of leopard fur. Each high back is adorned with two hand-carved conquistador heads donning their iconic helmets. These highly collectible and hard-to-find thrown chairs were born of the jet-set era. The 1960s was the golden age of air travel and Americans were absolutely fascinated with “Exotica.” Ephemera from exotic tropical lands around South Asia were all the rage and gave birth to an explosion of tiki motifs in popular American culture. This project was a complete tear-down and rebuild. Every section was unbolted and individually restored. This sinuous, dark cedar has been painstakingly detailed by our in-house restoration team to both preserve the patina and address any imperfections in the wood. Lightly recolored and clear-coated to accentuate and preserve the character. The seats and backs were professionally reupholstered, and the results speak for themselves. We're more than certain these will exceed expectations. Robert Post Junior and Artist William Westenhaver Created Witco...
