Rare Model 42 Arm Chair by Erik Kirkegaard for Høng Stolefabrik, Denmark, 1950's

About the Item

Introducing a rare early Model 42 armchair designed by the influential Erik Kirkegaard for Høng Stolefabrik. Recently restored and featuring newly upholstered thick-cut, full grain leather this now iconic armchair is perfect for designers and collectors alike searching for a genuine Model 42 that is ready for a lifetime more of use. Two inches shorter than was originally designed this particular model is ideal for those of a petite stature or used more as a lounge chair rather than a desk or dining chair. Erik Kirkegaard (1929-1986) was a renowned Danish furniture designer known for his simple, elegant and functional designs. He was born in Denmark and trained as a cabinetmaker before studying furniture design at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. Kirkegaard began his career as a furniture designer in the 1950s, and quickly gained recognition for his innovative designs. His furniture was characterized by its clean lines, simplicity, and functionality, and he often used natural materials such as teak and leather which are on full display with this custom-restored Model 42. With it's solid teak frame, newly upholstered leather and iconic stance this extraordinary Model 42 armchair is perfect as stand alone accent chair or as reading lounge chair and can blend seamlessly against a myriad of design backdrops from Mid-Century Modern to Boho Chic to Contemporary and everything in between. Custom-restored and upholstered this chair is the epitome of 'one-of-a-kind' - make it yours today before its truly gone forever. ---Dimensions--- Width: 24 in / 60.96 cm Depth: 22 in / 55.88 cm Height: 25.75 in / 65.41 cm Seat Height: 14.5 in / 36.83 cm Arm Height: 23 in / 58.42 cm This iconic Model 42 armchair by Erik Kirkegaard for Høng Stolefabrik has recently undergone a comprehensive restoration process. The solid teak frame has been lightly sanded and refinished showing only minor nicks and surface scratches but showing no gouges, cracks or stains whatsoever and the variegated woodgrains of the teak are absolutely stunning in natural light. The chair sits 2 inches lower than originally designed due to the previous owner cutting it down making this chair a great fit for those of petite statures or used more as a lounge chair than a dining chair. The upholstery has been redone in a thick-cut, full-grain leather hide and sun dyed to a lovely patinaed tan tone and shows only the wear of a once living animal (ranch brands, scars etc.). Both seat and backrest feature new medium density foam for maximum comfort and longevity. This icon of the Danish Modern movement is incredibly comfortable, structurally sound and ready for a lifetime more of use thanks to its recent restoration process. Please view all photos and video for details on this 42's current condition. We're limited on the amount of media we can post so additional photos and videos are available upon request.
