About the Item
An incredibly stylish, rare set of four 1960s Midcentury Modern low back teak lounge chairs by British company Greaves & Thomas. The chairs have a great stance, and are comfortable to sit in. The beautifully sculptured curved arms are extremely tactile and the fabric chosen to complement the colour of the wood. Each chair has been fully reupholstered to the highest standard with new luxurious foam and Pirelli rubber webbing, finished in a dark green hopsack weave wool/flax fabric by Camera, with zipped base cushions.
The teak wooden frames are solid and in wonderful condition, and have simply been cleaned and polished. There are a couple of small period marks, which are detailed in the last two images. Each chair measures: 69cm H x 85cm D x 70cm W. Seat height 38cm
Greaves and Thomas was a British furniture maker based in London, known for producing high-quality, fashionable furniture from 1911 to 1967. During the 1950s and 60s, the company embraced a Danish Modern aesthetic, producing teak sideboards, armchairs and dining furniture. Walter Cornell was a key designer for Greaves & Thomas during this period, and is well known for his sculptural, Danish Modern-influenced designs.
