About the Item

Designed in 1969 by Günter Ferdinand Ris and Herbert Selldorf for Rosenthal, this original Sunball Chair is a sculptural masterpiece that seamlessly combines futurism and functionality. The Sunball is made up of two half-spherical shells that can be opened, rotated and locked in any desired position, ideal for creating a private cocoon of tranquility. Fully closed, the spherical structure offers protection from wind and rain, making it a perfect outdoor lounge object. Thanks to the rotating base (360°), you can effortlessly follow the sunlight throughout the day. This particular version is exceptional: finished in a vibrant yellow colour and fitted with the original built-in lighting and radio – both luxury optional extras at the time. The interior has been carefully reupholstered in a beautiful blue velour fabric , which harmonises perfectly with the sunny exterior and gives the whole a fresh, stylish look. The Sunball chair has just been completely restored. New electrical wiring and transformer to 12v for outdoor use and the chair is also provided with a new layer of paint and upholstery according to the original authentic upholstery and color from 1968. So the chair is completely ready for its new user again. You won't find him like this anytime soon! This Sunball is not only a visual statement, but also extremely versatile. Thanks to its durable material and clever design, the chair can be placed both indoors and outdoors. The exterior has been professionally repainted in its original vibrant yellow colour, making it not only aesthetically pleasing, but also technically ready to last for generations to come. The Sunball was produced for only three years as part of the exclusive furniture collection of Rosenthal AG in Espelkamp. Inspired by the shape of an astronaut's helmet, this design embodies the avant-garde spirit of the 1960s – a sculptural statement that rarely appears on the market. A rare first edition, ready to shine in a high-end interior or as an outdoor object. This Sunball can only be rented for use in photoshoots and films.
