Late 20th C. French Louis XV Desk Armchair with Cane and Tooled Leather

About the Item

Crafted in France circa 1980, this refined desk armchair is a graceful example of mid-century Louis XV revival design. The solid beechwood frame is finished in a pale limed (cérused) treatment that subtly accentuates the wood grain while complementing the chair’s elegant curves and carved floral motifs. The shaped backrest is inset with finely woven cane, offering both comfort and an airy visual texture. Scrolled arms flow into hand-carved supports, each capped with upholstered leather elbow pads secured by decorative brass nailhead trim. The generous seat is upholstered in warm cognac-toned leather, embellished with delicate gold tooling around the border and trimmed with traditional nailheads, lending a classic and tailored finish. The chair stands on cabriole legs with acanthus leaf carvings, embodying the graceful silhouette typical of the Louis XV style. In excellent condition commensurate with age and use, this desk armchair blends mid-century elegance with old-world craftsmanship.
