Restored 1900 Chesterfield Porters Back Brown Leather Directors Captains Chair

About the Item

We are delighted to offer for sale this lovely fully restored circa 1900 horsehair padded with coil sprung base Chesterfield Porters fully buttoned captains chair with original double spring Hillcrest base The chair is the birthplace of Director's seating as we know it today, directors chairs are much larger than standard office chairs, they have taken their style or design from the early barrel backed porters chairs, this is the first edition of this range and where it all began, I've only ever seen one other piece in my entire career This piece has been fully restored to include having the leather stripped back then hand dyed this stunning whisky brown, the frame has been lightly refinished, all in all you have a vintage captain’s chair in better than retail condition because it has all the charm of a vintage piece but with the knowledge and peace of mind that it will last for many decades to come You will be hard pressed to find this model again especially in this kind of condition, the chair is the original Hillcrest version which simply put is the finest money can buy, the base platform has a dual spring tension adjuster with large single rather nautical looking handle Dimensions: Height 122cm adjustable Width 75cm Depth 80cm. Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point. This item is available for collection from our Wimbledon warehouses. Condition: Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
