Mid Victorian Side Chair Finely Hand Carved with Wool Work Seat, Circa 1850
Located in Lincoln, Lincolnshire
This is a very good quality example of an English occasional side chair in the Rococo style, from the mid Victorian period, circa 1850, made from Beech. The back is a Classic balloon back shape, but with intricate cut-out and carved detail to the frame and particularly to the cross splat. This carved detail is continued on the front legs and front stretcher. The foot of the legs are splayed slightly outwards which adds to the features of this chair. Twin side stretchers give additional strength to this chair but overall this is a delicately made chair. It has a good wool-work covered seat with a rose spray design. Please note: This chair is not a strong dining room chair and is not recommended for regular use as a chair to sit on. The chair is light and would make a very pretty bedroom or hall side chair, to be used principally for display either on its own or with say teddy bears displayed on it, or for draping light...

1970's High Barrel Back Rattan Chair
Located in San Carlos, CA
Very cool and boho chic rattan woven wicker chair. This one of a kind rattan chair comes with a unique high barrel back and comfortable seat. The chair sits on a bamboo frame for strength. This chair is in excellent structural condition. It is still as strong as ever and will easily last another 50 years if not more. Some reeds are snapped which is not uncommon and doesn't affect structural integrity. There's some discoloration due to age. See pictures for details. Rattan, also spelled ratan (from Malay: rotan), is the name for roughly 600 species of Old World climbing palms belonging to subfamily Calamoideae. The greatest diversity of rattan palm species and genera are in the closed-canopy old-growth tropical forests of Southeast Asia, though they can also be found in other parts of tropical Asia and Africa. Most rattan palms are ecologically considered lianas due to their climbing habits, unlike other palm species. A few species also have tree-like or shrub-like habits. Around 20% of rattan palm species are economically important and are traditionally used in Southeast Asia in producing wickerwork furniture, baskets, canes, woven mats, cordage, and other handicrafts. Rattan canes are one of the world's most valuable non-timber forest products. Some species of rattan also have edible scaly fruit and heart of palm. Despite increasing attempts in the last 30 years at commercial cultivation, almost all rattan products...
