The De Sede DS-600 'Snake' Sectional Sofa is a mid-century modern sofa made in Switzerland from high-quality brown leather. It was designed by Ueli Berger, Elenora Peduzzi-Riva, Heinz Ulrich, and Klaus Vogt for De Sede in 1972. The sofa consists of 16 seating pieces and two end/arm sections, making a total of 18 articles that can be connected with zippers to create endless configurations. The sofa's unique, free-flowing concept allows for unconventional furniture arrangements. The seating is upholstered in brown leather, and the outer frame is made of brown felt, giving it an elegant look. The high-quality leather is in excellent original condition with minor traces of use and a unique original patina, making it an almost perfect vintage piece.
De Sede initially began as a saddler's workshop in Klingnau, Switzerland, but later expanded into the seating furniture industry. In 1965, the family-run business became De Sede AG, and their products are renowned for their attention to detail and user comfort. All De Sede items are crafted from the best materials, ensuring durability and longevity.
This particular De Sede DS-600 'Snake' Sectional Sofa was purchased from its original owners in Germany, who ordered it in the late 1970s. It is in almost perfect vintage condition. Also known as the Non Stop sofa, it is a sensually curved, snaking modular sofa whose individual pieces can be zipped together to create multiple variations and arcs.
De Sede has collaborated with some of the world's finest design minds, enhancing the prestige and individuality of their products. Designers like Santiago Calatrava, Antonella Scarpitta, Stephan Hürlemann, Gordon Guillaumier and Philippe Malouin have all created pieces with the atelier. Ubald Klug’s 1974 DS-1025, also known as the Terrazza sofa, is an enduring favorite with its cascading levels of leather. In 2017, de Sede expanded its product line to include high-quality leather handbags, which are as thoughtfully designed and beautifully crafted as its furniture. De Sede AG is now part of the Volare Group AG and continues to handcraft its fine furniture and other goods from its factory in Klingnau.
