18th c. Chairback Settee

About the Item

An 18th century mahogany settee having double Chippendale chair backsplats on rectangular padded seat with scrolled arms over three front cabriole legs ending in pad feet and continuous back rail legs. Later seat covering. The maker of this piece selected the finest, heavy, dense mahogany timber for its construction. English, circa 1780.

Molded paneled sides. Good rich color. Probably Carmarthenshire, circa 1770. Bearing an old label from the noted dealers Stair and Andrew. These dressers are useful for dining rooms, front halls and behind sofas.
