About the Item
A rare early wicker settee also known as a Tete-Tete that is attributed to the Wakefield Rattan Company of Wakefield, Massachusetts. It was designed in the late 19th C. and is done in a beautiful all natural finish. This is a very rare piece of Antique American Wicker furniture and is in excellent condition with a beautiful warm brown toned finish which has been cleaned and touched up in a few worn areas and has a pressed caned seat which is also in excellent condition. This elegantly designed settee incorporates two handsome curlycue decorated flared chair backs on each side which are connected to each other by a woven rolled crescent shape that connects each side from the top of each chair back down to the lower midsection of the settees back which sits above a gallery of curlycue decoration at seat level.. The rolled crescent of the back design is then carried out from arm to arm and along the settees elaborately woven and beed decorated skirting. This is a wonderful example of the craftsmanship involved in these early wicker creations of this period. This is a wonderful conversation piece can be enjoyed in any room in the house from a reception chair at your homes entrance to the living room, bedroom and of courses the sunroom / covered porch !

Part of a large collection of ornate Victorian wicker that was collected over the years by a Senator's wife. This rolled woven arm loveseat has wicker curlicues in the open areas under the side arm rests. Across the back are alternating lattice weaving and woven portions.
