About the Item

Notable Cuban Empire Mahogany caned sofa, circa 1820, featuring Flame Mahogany veneers and opposing Eagle carvings. The center crest of this Caribbean Settee has a Pineapple motif flanked by Regal Bird Heads clasping drapery from their beaks rest on a Mahogany Cresting Wave framing a hand-cane back. This West Indies settee has Classical Lines in the Napoleonic style with hand craved mahogany arms framing a central crest matching the Regal Bird Crest and is flanked by Reeded Waves. The Cuban Sofa is supported on four Saber Legs that are crowned with Pineapple and Foliage hand carving. The Cuban Crotch Mahogany Seat Rail is flanked by Rectangle Reeded Stylized Sun Brust. The caning gives this Regal Sofa a softness that is home on Park Avenue or Havana.

    Rewoven. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. Minor fading. The sofa back retains the original hand caning and has a small puncture. The caning on the seat is not original but has been replaced hand caning. There are two small veneer pieces that are missing. Pictures included.
