Federal Style Upholstered Settee, Reeded Mahogany Frame with Gilded Acanthus Leaf & Swans. Federal style is characterized by bold patriotic symbols such as eagles, shield-shaped chair backs. Delicate designs with minimal ornamentation with straight lines. Symmetry and balance were also important; this settee was likely placed in a room that was oval or circular.
