About the Item

This rare collectors piece is the 'New York' settee sofa by William Katavalos, Ross Littell and Douglas Kelley for Laverne International (Erwine & Estelle Laverne), designed in 1952, this example produced in circa 1950s, featuring a gorgeous chrome-plated steel frame with signature slatted back supports covered by a single curved button-tufted black leather seat cushion which attaches to the frame. The 'New York' sofa is a great option for owners of the 'Barcelona' chairs by Mies van der Rohe for Knoll, since the Barcelona was not made in a sofa form, this is a very complimentary design that pairs wonderfully with the Barcelona and can solve that dilemma that has plagued many Barcelona lounge chair owners with 'what sofa' to pair with their chairs. Incredibly high-quality in materials and craftsmanship, something you don't see in todays manufacturing, this armless loveseat, model 7-FC 'New York' seating was part of the Laverne Originals 'New Furniture Group' series, it was known and celebrated for its very high quality chromed steel construction in minimalist and timeless form and was offered in various sizes from lounge chairs, loveseat / settees to a very long four-seat sofa. *Note, we also have a pair of 'New York' lounge chairs in black leather that can pair nicely with this settee - let us know if you are interested in creating a set by sending us a message. Featuring a tubular steel frame with bright chromed steel bands and gorgeous tufted leather, this loveseat sofa is so comfortable and so stylish, it's ideal for a collector connoisseur or an interior designer with a hard to please client who demands only the best. Consider pairing this sofa with the Barcelona chair by Mies van der Rohe for Knoll Associates and Poul Kjaerholm's PK-80 daybed for E. Kold Christensen (EKC). This 1950s model 7FC 'New York' sofa by Katavolos, Littell and Kelley for Erwin & Estelle Laverne of Laverne Originals / Laverne International would work great in a Post-Modern, Mid-Century Modern, Space Age Mod, Scandanavian Modern or Danish Modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a Contemporary or Zen / Minimalism room. Also consider mixing it up in a Traditional, Transitional, Hollywood Regency, Classical or Art Deco room with a splash of juxtaposition. Would also be an apt choice in a commercial project such as a hotel lobby lounge or members club, creative design studio or high-rise executive office. Loveseat Sofa by Claudio Salocchi for Sormani Italy, c 1970, Signed
By Sormani, Claudio Salocchi
Located in Los Angeles, CA
This newly reupholstered loveseat sofa by Claudio Salocchi for Sormani, circa 1970s, features a graceful chrome frame with nubby white bouclé fabric. Signed with 1960s/ 1970s Sormani label as shown in photo gallery. *Note, we have the matching pair of club chairs available in another listing. The graceful frame shares a design quality with Cassina's LC2 / LC3 design by Le Corbusier, as they are 'buckets of cushions' in similar fashion and comfort. However this Sormani sofa features some unique subtle details, such as the slight "twist" in the rear legs (see photos). Signed with a Sormani label, this particular rare design is attributed to Claudio Salocchi. While there were several other famous designers who created works for Sormani in this time period, the style best matches Salocchi's work. For collectors looking for something unique and rare within a collection of 1960s/ 1970s Italian designs, this pair two-seater couch is an amazing opportunity. This Cassina LC2 / LC3 loveseat...
