About the Item

A rare 18th Century comb-back settee in beech with an elm slab seat. Completely original and retaining a superb color and patina. The turned legs are connected by turned stretchers. The back is supported by flat uprights at each end and one in the center that is flanked on each side by 13 turned spindles. Each shaped arm is supported by one ring turned column and three simpler spindles, similar to those of the back. From David Knell's English Country Furniture: "A bench with back and arms, or 'settee,' of Windsor form is very rare within the English furniture tradition."
