About the Item

The Collage Chair. Inspired by Picasso's Violin, Fall 1912, Paris. This chair is a real focal point of a room. Hand made in Kent UK. Constructed from Cherry which was also felled in Kent and ebonized to achieve the bold look that cubism gave. This is a complete one off art piece yet also functional if need be. The Collage Chair is hand made using mostly hand tools. There are areas that have been left unplanned ans in sanded to let the wood and tool marks come through the ebony tone. This is the artists intention to give the chair more character and life. In very good condition. One of a kind, Studio Experiment. Free UK Shipping

cantilevered chair #3 handcrafted from solid black cherry with oil finish
By Frank Buschmann
Located in Carnota, A Coruña, Galicia
This version of Chair #3 is meticulously handcrafted from black cherry wood with a sleek oil finish. Made entirely using traditional wooden joinery techniques, the seat is reinforced by a sliding dovetail on the underside, ensuring adaptability to environmental changes while maintaining structural integrity. With its fusion of design history and modern craftsmanship, this chair makes a bold, sophisticated statement in any space. Chair #3: Tracing the Origins of a Contemporary Classic Chair #3 is the product of an in-depth exploration of a sequence of iconic chairs—Conoid, Kufenstuhl, Zigzag, and Sitzgeiststuhl—all recognized as contemporary design classics. However, its true uniqueness is revealed not in the first glance, but through the intricate details and historical influences embedded in its form. The sequence begins with the Conoid chair, designed by George Nakashima in 1988. Nakashima, who referred to his work as "Shaker Japanese," drew inspiration from 19th-century Shaker furniture. Key elements such as the molded seating, T-shaped legs—commonly found in Shaker tables—and spindles in the back, echo the Shaker aesthetic, while also paying homage to the Windsor chair from the 16th century. However, the Conoid’s distinctive two-legged design references Karl Nothhelfer’s Kufenstuhl, a 1955 German school chair...
