Egon Eiermann, Folding Chair Model SE 18, for Wilde + Spieth, Designed 1952

About the Item

Egon Eiermann (designer), Germany Wilde+Spieth (manufacturer), Germany SE18 folding chair, designed 1952 Beech frame with laminated beech plywood seat and back. Clear lacquered finish. Seat folds upwards when chair is folded. Egon Eierman was one of Germany's most significant architects in the second half of the 20th century. Alongside designing significant modernist buildings, he also designed various items of furniture, in particular seating, that are now true design classics. This SE 18 chair is an early example of this design, dating from circa 1960. Condition: Overall good solid condition. The wood has aged nicely and developed a good color and patina. No notable structural damage. Various small marks, knocks and scratches. Various areas of wear to the clear lacquer/varnish, in particlar on the seat. Various other light signs of wear in accordance with age.

  • Condition:
    Wear consistent with age and use. At some time in previous ownership there have been some very small areas of blue paint applied to cover up some scratches. This is quite localised and not generally noticable.
