About the Item

Original antique Eugenio Quarti attributed , side chairs in walnut, velvet upholstered with bronze decorations. Polished to wax. Original velvet still in good and usable condition Measure cm: H 93 x W 45 x D 45. About Eugenio Quarti Eugenio Quarti was born in Villa d'Alme, a small town in the province of Bergamo, from a family of artisan carpenters. In 1881, at the age of 14, he was sent in Paris from his father, to learn new techniques and broaden his horizons. In 1886 he returned to Italy and moved to Milan where he worked for a short time period with Carlo Bugatti, then opens his shop in via Donizetti 3. His first works are strongly marked by the Moorish style of Bugatti, but already on the occasion of the Turin exhibition of 1898, the first ones can be seen signs of Art Nouveau and his personal style. Quarti has always been attentive to the quality and originality of his creations, and very sensitive to all of them the art forms. He makes his furniture mainly in walnut, with inlays in mother of pearl and metallic applications. He develops a harmonious elegance over time furniture, with very fine motifs, using precious wood essences and high quality inlays with noble materials such as silver, copper, bronze, pewter, etc. cabinetmaker. " In 1900 he took part in the Paris International Exposition, where he received the "Grand Prix" by the jury. Subsequently he participates in numerous exhibitions such as Turin in 1902 and Milan in 1906 where he received the "Royal Grand Prix" and the "Gold medal". He was one of the great Italian cabinet makers of the twentieth century century and some of his furniture are on display in various museums around the world such as the Museum of Decorative Arts of Castello Sforzesco in Milan, the Musée d'Orsay of Paris, the Wolfsonian museum of Miami, etc. On his death in 1929, the son Mario Quarti (1901-1974) inherited the company from his father, restructured it and over the years thirty the company "Quarti - Mobili d'Arte" had about 200 people.
