Pair of Early 20th Century French Regency Style Hand Carved Painted Side Chairs

About the Item

This pair of painted French Regency style side chairs from the turn of the twentieth century features symmetrically hand carved central shells flanked by gadrooning acanthus leaves on the fronts and sides. Additional shells detail the bottom of the seat backs as well as the top of each leg. Its four cabriolet legs are finished with escargot feet and are joined by a lower curved X stretcher that provides additional stability. The frames of the chairs display vestiges of gilding and white paint and boast a worn patina that only comes with age. The seats and seat backs are covered in linen, ready for upholstery. Of an unusual large-scale not often found in French chairs, this pair measures 41 inches in height, 21 inches in width, and 21 inches in depth. c. 1900.
