About the Item

Pair of circa 1815 English Regency period side chairs attributed to renowned cabinetmakers Morel & Hughes having parcel-gilt and gilt-metal mounted rosewood 'klismos-form' frames; the crest-rail with original gilt metal 'butler's pull' above upholstered backs and seats. Biography: Nicolas Morel and Robert Hughes were partners in a cabinet-making and upholstery business at 13 Great Marlborough Street, London, from 1805 until 1826. Their commissions included work at Carlton House, London, for the Prince of Wales, later King George IV, and for many aristocratic clients. Literature: Collard, Frances. 'Regency Furniture'.
