About the Item
A set of six bicolored stacking chairs designed by Austrian architect Franz Schuster manufactured by Wiesner-Hager in Mid-Century, circa 1960 (late 1950s or early 1960s).
This chair was designed by Franz Schuster for the Stadtpark-Forum Graz in 1959 and is also called as "Austro Chair".
A very simple design, similar to the stacking chairs from Roland Rainer.
They are made of beech wood with partly dark brown painted seats and backs. The tone of the beech became very warm and rich during the last 60 years.
The chairs have been refurbished and are in very good condition.
Professor Franz Schuster (1892-1972) was an Austrian architect and designer and studied at Oskar Strnad and Heinrich Tessenow at the 'Wiener Kunstgewerbeschule' (Vienna School of Arts and Crafts) which was the predecessor of the current 'University of Applied Arts Vienna'. He graduated in 1919 and worked in the follwing years as architect and designer on many different projects. He was one of the most important Austrian architects besides Roland Rainer.
In 1950 Franz Schuster became Professor at the 'University of Applied Arts Vienna'.
