About the Item

Pair of sofas in carved walnut and lacquered chinoiserie, Venice, early 18th century. This rare and refined pair of sofas was made in Venice at the beginning of the 18th century, during the transition between Louis XIV and Louis XV. Each sofa consists of three seats with backs called pattona: it is a backrest to day, with in the center a vertical folder of elongated shape and fashioned, which provides a large surface to decorate with motifs often taken from the East. Also in this case the backrests, armrests and legs are in carved wood, lacquered with dark background and embossed figures with polychrome and gold chinoiserie motifs. The arched legs and moves are joined together by mixed crossbars. It is quite rare to be able to find on the antique market sofas in pairs. This feature, combined with the elegance and great decorative that distinguish these sofas make them particularly interested. They can be easily inserted in environments of ancient or modern taste and can be exhibited in pairs or individually in a living room, in a study or in an entrance, interspersed with tables or consoles.

18th century, pair of Italian Baroque lacquered and gilt wood benches This particular pair of baroque benches was made in Rome, Italy, in the second half of the 18th century. Their wooden structure is entirely sculpted, lacquered and gilded in Mecca. It consists of a seat with a profile moved from which depart two armrests characterized by arched elements, moved and culminating in curls. The effect of great movement is enhanced by the decorations of rocaille taste with volutes and leaves that surround them creating dynamism.
