About the Item
A fine and elegant example of the type of 19th century neoclassical Gustavian paint decorated square frame upholstered sofa. Paint decorated overall in pale gray with gilt details. Carved and gilt leaf framing bands are around the top back and the skirt rail. The sides and back with carved openwork panels of curved X supports with gilt center rosettes between cylindrical tapering supports with tall gilt leafy bases. Raised on tapering cylindrical legs with gilt flutes and gilt ribbed capitals.
Custom upholstered seat and back and side panels in a fine pale gray-blue and white damask style fabric.
Dimensions: 82 1/2" long x 24 1/2" deep x 35 1/2" high
Condition: Please review detail photos. Various signs of age and use. There is a stable crack across one side center rosette. Professional repair to left side panel. Some of the gilt details are slightly darkened and there is some wear to the gray paint mentioned for accuracy as the presentation is, as stated, extraordinary.
