Fine Open Arm Hide Leather Library Sofa Country House Antique Howard Sons style

About the Item

A superb quality, gorgeous and extremely rare Howard & Sons style two-seater open-arm cigar hide leather library sofa in lovely vintage condition. Made by high-end British designer company Mulberry in the late 20th Century, this extremely comfortable and attractive rare sofa will add gorgeous colouring and a wonderfully refined bygone aesthetic of relaxed yet distinguished quality to any setting. Open-arm library sofas are extremely rare; you’d be hard-pressed to find one and even then, it would very likely be an eye-wateringly expensive Victorian antique. This fabulous two-seater is well-proportioned, reassuringly heavy and dripping with the quality you’d expect to find in a late-Victorian gentleman’s club. It’s a joy to sit in and relax. The broad padded back and open arms and the generously sized and very comfortable sprung seat are covered with excellent quality thick, piped hide leather, finished with leather trim to the armrests and smart brass studding. The super quality leather displays a gorgeous semi-distressed vintage look ranging from milk chocolate to golden tan in colour, adding to its characterful antique design and appearance. This fabulous sofa has stunningly turned wooden arm supports and front legs, sweeping rear legs and is set on excellent quality brass castors for ease of moving, which all go to make this an extremely distinguished-looking and attractive piece. All in all this is a gorgeous and very rare sofa, which won’t fail to impress and will enhance any interior with a refined Country House library aesthetic. CONDITION This is in good-to-very-good vintage condition. Beautifully proportioned, reassuringly heavy and structurally sound, it has minor signs of wear, including some scratches and blemishes to the leather, which if anything only enhance this fabulous sofa’s antique look. The thick hide leather will last for years and years, becoming more characterful through the decades, and has been treated to keep it rejuvenated and looking its best. Overall it's a stunning rare open-arm library sofa in lovely vintage condition, and if well looked after it should be just as gorgeous for generations to come – please see the photos.
