About the Item

This red velvet Tatlin sofa was designed by Mario Cananzi and Roberto Semprini for Edra in the 1980s. Inspired by the famous Tatlin tower, a symbol of constructivism created by Vladimir Tatlin. This sofa is upholstered in its original red velvet. It might need new new upholstery because it has some spots and decoloration. The inside is still in good condition. Please check the pictures. 135cm H x 210cm W x 175cm D seating height: 38 cm This wild and amazing Postmodern 'Tatlin' center sofa was designed by Mario Cananzi and Roberto Semprini and produced by Edra in 2002. Covered in a sumptuous red velvet fabric over a steel and wood frame, this high quality and substantially sized circular settee is unique and can be the perfect fit for many design applications. The retail price for a new Tatlin sofa is over $16,000, making this a substantial savings while acquiring an early production original example that comes with matching loose cushions. Based on the Tatlin tower, the Tatlin tête-à-tête sofa with its TOTEM structure is suitably placed at the center of any living space. Taken from Edra's website: "Sofa for the center place in the room loosely based on the Tatlin tower, emblem of Constructivism. A modern TOTEM, perfect also for public spaces. It allows new possibilities of seating, offering room for more people. A true work of architecture. A real Edra icon." This example was previously owned by a major Hollywood prop house that supplied designer items for top TV Shows and Movies. The upside to this is this center sofa has graced the buttocks of many a Hollywood celebrities and when you are watching your favorite shows and movies you may see your sofa on the screen. The downside is that the loose cushions have inventory numbers written along a seam in black marker. It is barely noticeable only on close inspection. We have not attempted to clean these off, they may be cleanable. This elegant 'Tatlin' center round loveseat would work great in a Mid-Century Modern, Scandanavian Modern or Danish Modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a Contemporary or Post-Modern room. Also consider mixing it up in a Traditional, Transitional, Classical or Art Deco room with a splash of juxtaposition. Would also be an Apt choice in a commercial project such as a hotel lobby lounge or members club, creative design studio or high-rise executive office. Consider using as a side chair, cafe or breakfast table chair, bedside chair, fireside chair, dressing or changing room chair, hallway chair, entryway or mudroom chair, nursing or reading chair, conference room chair, office or desk chair, guest chair, lobby chair, lounge chair or occasional chair ideal in virtually any setting. The name Edra is derived from the Greek word exedra, meaning a space for conversation and socialization. True to its name, the Italian furniture manufacturer creates beautiful seating like sofas and armchairs, as well as coffee tables and end tables to go with them. Jacopo Foggini, known for his own innovative designs, is another frequent Edra collaborator. In 2022, Edra and Foggini released the sea-inspired A'mare collection of translucent blue outdoor furniture made from polycarbonate.

Edra has also represented Italy on several international sporting stages. The company was an official furniture supplier for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang and the 2022 Alpine Skiing World Championships in Cortina d'Ampezzo.
