About the Item

Leif Hansen’s Model 62 sofa is commonly referred to as the “Geisha” and was designed in 1959. This model is a strikingly elegant example of Danish modernism’s streamlined, luxurious aesthetic appeal to contemporary eyes. This three-seater sofa is made of two types of exotic woods and dressed in a premium light fabric. Its character is created by three main elements: the visually sectioned, fully upholstered body, the wooden accents on the arms, and the distinctively shaped legs. It says a lot when a model is representative not only of a designer, but also of a manufactory. So is the case with this Geisha sofa, as it is both Leif Hansen’s and Kronen Møbelfabrikken’s most well-know furniture piece. This sofa was designed to provide the ultimate level of comfort for both the eyes and the sitter. From the slightly curved seat and tilted back to the welcoming body, the elegant cosiness of Danish modernism is evident. The pair of splayed teak legs supporting the body have an architectural flair and the fact that they provide perfect stability further proves the design’s structural quality. Aesthetically, the legs add further visual interest and show the beauty of the wood. The first, 1960s production of the original furniture group collectively known as Geisha consisted of the present Model 62 sofa, a couple of easy chairs, a high-back lounge chair with a footstool completed by a matching table. Each one has become a collector’s piece, especially from the early production era. Condition: In good vintage condition. Wear consistent with age and use.
