About the Item

Michel Arnoult (1922–2005) Two-Seater Sofa, c. 1960 This rare two-seater sofa by Michel Arnoult, created circa 1960 as a custom piece for a residence in São Paulo, exemplifies the designer’s commitment to functional beauty and accessible modernism. Crafted in rich Roxinho wood with cotton upholstery, the sofa’s most distinctive feature is its backrest woven with nylon rope—a technical and aesthetic innovation that adds visual lightness, flexibility, and rhythm to the structure. Arnoult’s refined sense of proportion and honest use of materials result in a piece that is at once airy, graphic, and bold. A striking and authentic example of Brazilian design history. Dimensions: 127 x 70 x 72 cm (50 x 27 14/25 x 28 7/20 in) Provenance: Modernist house, architect Miguel Neto, Rue Suécia /Sao Paulo.
