A Pair of Early 19th Century Carved Oak Sofas, Designed by William Atkinson
With subtly carved gothic detailing to the arm, and low, broad and deep dimensions. From the workshops of William Atkinson, an English architect most highly regarded for his designs incorporating elements of gothic revival, working mainly in the Scottish lowlands in the early 19th Century.

Provenance: Scone Palace, Perthshire, Scotland

William Atkinson’s original hand drawn design for a “Sofa for Gallery Scone, July 1821′ with identical carved arm is held in the family archive of Scone Palace.
