About the Item

A stunning pair of vintage Scandinavian armchairs, likely from the 1940s, attributed to designer Paul Boman. Featuring plush upholstery in a luxurious olive-green velvet fabric with a subtle, intricate floral pattern on the sides and back, these chairs exude both elegance and comfort. While the design characteristics align with Boman's known work, we do not have formal documentation to confirm the attribution. The chairs showcase a charming, scalloped backrest and rounded arms, complemented by classic tapered wooden legs that embody the timeless appeal of mid-century Scandinavian design. Their rich texture and warm, earthy color make them versatile additions to various interior styles, from mid-century modern to eclectic or classic decor. Ideal for a cozy reading nook, a stylish living room, or as statement pieces in any sophisticated setting, these chairs offer both vintage charm and comfortable seating. This pair is a fantastic choice for collectors and design enthusiasts looking to bring a piece of Scandinavian history and character into their space. The overall condition is fair, the chairs show some sings of use especially in the back. Additionally in the back, the upholstery has started to tear from the top of one chair (this can be fixed fairly easily). Please refer to pictures for a better understanding.

Commissioned Pair of Paavo Tynell / Paul Boman 1948 floor lamps, Taito 1940s
By Paul Boman, Paavo Tynell
Located in Helsinki, FI
A beautiful pair of commissioned floor lamps by Paul Boman/Paavo Tynell for the United Paper Mills (Yhtyneet paperitehtaat) club house in Jämsänkoski. P. Boman / Oy Taito Ab, c. late 1940s. We acquired these lamps directly from the club house. As these lamps were commissioned for a more classic and formal place, the overall design was reflective of the settings. The lamp legs were made of wood rather than the usual brass-rattan combination. The middle part retained the Tynell hallmark brass switch "box" and is lit by 3 lamps and finally the upper part also reminds us of the Tynell classic Chinese hat lamps, but with a more formal twist. A beautiful unique pair that suits formal spaces, reading rooms and libraries, or any interior with a classic vibe. The United Paper Mills is an important company in Finnish industrial history that helped build and shape industrial towns around Finland. The company is now a multi-billion euro firm that is still functioning. The Jämsänkoski deputy's manor house that was turned into the company's club house, to where these lamps were commissioned, hosted endless important meetings and parties and accommodated many prominent state visitors such as Princess Ann...
