About the Item

A spectacular example of Mid-Century Swedish Modern design, this "Gondola" sleeper sofa has been meticulously restored to better-than-new condition. Attributed to furniture maker Bröderna Andersson, it combines a sculptural 1960s profile with the renowned Småland sleeper mechanism and a completely modernized interior. This piece has been stripped to the frame and rebuilt from the ground up, ensuring a lifespan for the next generation. • Complete Restoration: The sofa bed has been newly restored, repadded, and reupholstered using all new materials. The internal foam and batting have been upgraded to modern high-density standards for superior comfort and support. • Main Upholstery: The exterior is finished in a luxurious textured warm gray linen weave. The fabric offers a sophisticated, organic tactility that complements the vintage lines while remaining neutral enough for contemporary interiors. • Interior Detail: The sleeping deck features a high-end custom detail: a striated ottoman cloth fabric has replaced the original mattress ticking. This durable fabric adds a bespoke touch that is visible only when the bed is in use. • Wood Finish: The solid Teak arm caps and tapered legs have been refinished in a custom Espresso finish. This rich, deep tone highlights the grain of the wood and provides a striking contrast against the lighter linen upholstery. • The Småland Mechanism: This sofa features the robust and ingeniously designed Småland mechanism, a hallmark of high-quality Swedish engineering from the Ekenässjö region. Included are folding metal legs for extra support - that are hidden when the sleeper unit is closed. • Parallel Sleeping Configuration: Unlike American sofa beds that unfold perpendicularly into the room, this is a Parallel Sleeper (or longitudinal sleeper). The seat slides forward smoothly to create a sleeping surface that runs parallel to the backrest. This space-saving design eliminates the need for a heavy fold-out metal frame and preserves the sofa's elegant "floating" silhouette. • The Silhouette: The design is defined by its "Gondola" back—a continuous, sweeping curve that wraps around to form the armrests. It is finished on all sides, allowing it to be placed centrally in a room. Overall depth with sleeper unit extended: 48"D. #BS-15137
