18th Century Swedish Primitive Milking Stool – Hand-Carved

About the Item

This rare 18th-century Swedish milking stool is a beautiful example of primitive folk craftsmanship. Hand-carved from solid pine, it was originally used in rural Sweden as a milking stool and features a distinctive sculptural backrest—an intricate detail that highlights the artisan traditions of Swedish vernacular design. What makes primitive pieces like this so special is their one-of-a-kind nature. Each was crafted individually, imbued with its own history, and bears the marks of generations past. The seat is worn and imperfect in the most compelling way—traces of time and use are clearly visible and deeply authentic. The legs have recently been restabilised during a careful restoration process, ensuring the piece remains solid and functional. The natural grain of the pine is exposed on the legs, while the backrest retains subtle remnants of deep red paint—a beautiful nod to its original finish. Condition: Excellent antique condition for its age. Recently restored and structurally stable. Visible surface wear, imperfections, and signs of age are present and consistent with 18th-century origin.
