_______________________________________________________
Axel Larsson, born in 1898 in the parish of Torps, Medelpad, died in 1975, was a Swedish furniture designer.
Axel Larsson grew up in Medelpad. As a young carpenter's apprentice, he was given a scholarship to study further in Stockholm as a furniture designer from 1916 to 1920. In parallel with his studies at the Higher School of Industrial Design, he was a furniture designer for Carl Malmsten from 1919 to 1920 during his work on furniture for Stockholm City Hall. During the 1920s, he made study trips to Europe, including to the Paris Exhibition in 1925.
At the age of 25, he was employed by AB Svenska Möbelfabrikerna in Bodafors at the Stockholm office. His big debut was the first furniture series that was shown at the Stockholm Exhibition in 1930.
Axel Larsson started his own business from 1956 to 1975, but continued to work for Svenska Möbelfabrikerna in Bodafors. At this time he also designed furniture for other companies, such as Balzar Beskow AB, which still produces the S-312 chair model from 1960. He carried out many large interior design assignments from the 1930s to the 1960s, including for the Gothenburg Concert Hall, the Park Avenue Hotel in Gothenburg and the Folksamhuset in Stockholm.
In addition to the S-312, the steel tube chair Bankett from 1960 is also a bestseller.
A large part of his sketches and drawings are preserved in the Design Archive at Pukeberg Glassworks and he is represented at, among others, the National Museum in Stockholm.
