Chinese Hardwood Drum Stool

About the Item

The stool is a central fixture of Chinese furniture culture. Found in a variety of materials and forms, the stool transcends class lines, as much at home in the provincial courtyard as it is in the grand hall of a wealthy estate. Whether worked from fine hardwood or cobbled together from wood scraps, the ever-practical stool finds its place in all corners of the home. This gorgeous hardwood stool is shaped in a traditional drum form first popularized during the Song dynasty (960 to 1279). The stool features a rounded seat and five legs that bow outwards to match the curved shape of a drum, each carved with archaistic dragon scrollwork. A band of imitation boss-head nails rings the seat like those used to stretch hide across an actual drum. Darkened with a warm, red-brown stain, the stool beautifully showcases the tight grain of its hardwood construction and elevates its surroundings with quiet elegance. 'Lin' Minimalist Stool in Brazilian Hardwood by Knót Artesanal
By Knót Artesanal
Located in Paraty, Rio de Janeiro
Lin is derived from a clean and minimalist take on a traditional three-legged stool, giving it a thoroughly modern appeal and Scandinavian feel through its brass details and slender appearance. The brass line on the seat marks the join in the wood and as such is different on each making them all unique. Light yet robust it’s a perfect combination of structure and aesthetic. Made from a range of Brazilian solid hard woods with a natural finish of oil and wax. Knót Artesanal...
