About the Item

Disordine Stool by Joana Teixeira Limited Edition Dimensions: D 40 x W 40 x H 43 cm. Materials: Stainless steel, onyx, and plywood. DISORDINE represents the materialization of our transformation as individuals, expressed through design—a messenger object. We begin life as an aluminum cube with perfect geometry, smooth faces, unformed, and pure. However, external factors inevitably shape our form, and our being, but never our essence. All the deformation of this piece is done by hand and with human strength, making each piece unique and singular—a messenger and representation of human transformation. This deformation has a poetic side, as the shapes of the sheet metal caused by the hammer reflect the light softly, akin to the sun shining on water. In other words, the altered, crude, raw, and deformed side results in a special, glimmering particularity. Joana Teixeira was born in Oporto and graduated in industrial design. From very early she realized that her path would be to express emotions through objects. Joana started her career in jewelry to fulfill her taste for detail, however, she felt that her curiosity for the processes and the desire for new challenges needed to be expanded, later embarking on industrial design. Obsessed by emotions and with extreme sensitivity, she seeks to transmit the restlessness with which she observes the world through her pieces. Creating a close relationship between object and user, mixing the creative process with production, material, form, and purpose. Aesthetically seeks the harmonization of the senses, having as premises the attention to detail, sobriety, subtleness, and longevity, inspiring and absorbing the chaotic beauty of the world.

Assento Stool by Macheia
Located in Geneve, CH
Assento Stool by Macheia Handmade In Portugal. Dimensions: D 55 x W 75 x H 40 cm. Materials: Natural dried bulrush and galvanized iron. Inspired by Tanho, the most iconic piece of the Bunho technique, Assento is a hybrid between a sitting stool and a side table. The bulrush spiral extends into a metal arc that embraces the wheel into the metal structure. The low seat’s organic shape represents a release from the spiraling motion of the wheel. The Collection zooms in the Bunho technique - a unique portuguese basketry technique that shapes the natural fiber Bulrush (Schoenoplectrus Palla), into a intricate mesh of knots and stitches. Nowadays, the Bunho technique is kept by the hands and know-how of only two artisans in Europe, One of them is Manuel Ferreira...

Her work incorporates unconventional design techniques that stretch far from traditional craftsmanship. Exploring new techniques and material driven processes such as metal forming and non-traditional upholstery, she builds on similar profiles and repetitive patterns in the aim of creating something timeless.
