About the Item

An elegant and rare burr walnut and walnut stool or bench in the Queen Anne style, raised on finely carved cabriole legs and with seat covered salmon and silver linen-silk damask. England, circa 1920's. A highly desirable and sought after model. Why we like it The walnut has aged gracefully, developing that warm, honeyed colour and patina that come only with time. The carvings at the knees are particularly well done, giving this stool an elegance that sets it apart from many similar pieces. The cabriole legs are wonderfully slender, giving it a light, graceful presence. It works just as well in a drawing room as beside a dressing table.

18th Century George III Spider Leg Table Circa 1780
By Thomas Chippendale
Located in Richmond, London
A rare 18th century George III period mahogany 'Spider Leg' side table or drop-leaf table, in the manner of ‘The Dumfries House Cabinet-Maker’. English or Scottish, circa 1780. A highly desirable and sought after model. Why we like it We love the elegant simplicity of this table, the unusual thinness of its components, which lend this design a very delicate look. A number of related side tables in mahogany, attributed to ‘The Dumfries House Cabinet-Maker’, possibly Thomas Chippendale, was supplied circa 1760 to Lord Dumfries at Dumfries House, Scotland (illustrated). A further related table, distinguished by the superb quality of construction, is at Fenton House (NT 1448858). Thomas Chippendale supplied ‘Two neat Mahogany Spider leg Tables...
