EGO Stool 'Black', Brazilian Contemporary Design

About the Item

Sometimes, the classics shapes are so well resolved that we don't need much to create a new product. Inspired by the traditional wood stool, found in the farms and home in the interior of Brazil, EGO is our proposition to bring a new look to this iconic furniture, a Brazilian quintessential design brought to the 21st century with the current latest technologies such as laser cutting and automatic bending. EGO is the first of a series of furniture inspired in the traditional culture of Minas Gerais, Brazil. It is a tribute to the rich and bold craft from the anonymous artists from Brazil. A well known shape, present in the subconscious mind of everyone who ever traveled to the inner country. What if the traditional Brazilian furniture was presented with a contemporary touch? That is what Olavo Machado Neto proposes with this line of stools, benches and chairs. A new approach to a simple form / factor so well known and loved.

    By Rodrigo Ohtake

The Esfera stool was created by the Brazilian contemporary designer Rodrigo Ohtake, in 2019. The mix of materials is the differential in this series. While wood is used as a seat, a metal plate, thick and curved, raises the first material from the ground in a light way and with minimal contact, both with the floor and with the wood. The structure is made of stainless steel and Cumaru Wood. Definitely a one of a kind and unique piece. Graduated at FAU / USP in 2009, with a period of studies at the Polytechnic of Milan, Rodrigo Ohtake is always in search of his own architectural style. Passionate about colors and free forms, he collaborated with architects Mario Biselli, Alvaro Puntoni, and Frenchman Patrick Jouin, in addition to working with his father, Ruy, from 2008 to 2016. In addition to working in the offices, he participated as a curatorial assistant in the exhibitions "Viver na Floresta", curated by Abílio Guerra, "O Coração da Cidade: Invention of Spaces" by Júlio Katinsky...
