Erin Sullivan, Flora Series, Cannabis Stool, USA, 2018

About the Item

New York based contemporary sculptor Erin Sullivan employs the labor-intensive lost-wax process to create exquisite, realistic bronze interpretations of her organic subject matter. The Cannabis Stool is at once a functional object and a free-standing sculpture. Sullivan hand-sculpts each cannabis leaf building layer upon layer to form the stool into a wax model which is then cast in the lost wax method. The work expresses ideas of time and memory, constant themes in Sullivan’s repertoire. In both the Flora Series and Fauna Series, Sullivan immortalizes the intricacies and delicacy within the natural world in cast bronze, a durable material capable of surviving many several millennia. The artist crafts an aesthetic equilibrium between life and death, nature and artifact, and art and design. As Sullivan works on a commission basis, custom dimensionality and finishes may be accommodated. Materials: Bronze with liver of sulphur patina Dimensions: 16.50h x 11w x 11d inches

  • Geometric Ashanti African Stool
    Located in Chicago, IL
An indicator of status and family, stools play an integral role in traditional Ashanti culture. Believed to be the resting place for a person's soul, a stool is given to a child when they first learn to crawl and used in personal milestones throughout the rest of their life. Carved from a solid block of wood, each stool has a rectangular base and a distinctive curved seat supported by a central column and four corner posts. While some ceremonial stools are carved to convey particular proverbs, this stool is simply decorated with scalloped edges, geometric patterns, and a small cross. The combination of shapes and curved lines makes this Ashanti stool...
