French 19th Century Oak Tapestry Stool

About the Item

Outstanding French 19th century Louis XIV style bench (or footstool) with needlepoint upholstery, raised on four Os de Mouton legs with stretcher, entirely hand-carved from walnut. The tapestry-like seat features a dense pattern of radiating, leafy vegetation in gold, pale mauve, and robin’s egg blue accented with black at the corners. A stuffing of natural fibers (unknown if horsehair or vegetal) gives a firm seat when used as a little bench as well as to prop up one’s feet. Domed studs of the nailhead trim makes a stylish transition to the apron with textural contrast. The elaborately-carved legs and stretchers makes this stool an attractive choice for any room, please view the detailed images to see the current condition.
