About the Item
Gilbert Marklund 1933 - 2012
Gilbert Marklund is a Swedish furniture designer known for his work during the mid-20th century, particularly in the 1960s and 1970s. His designs often reflect the principles of Scandinavian modernism, with a focus on simplicity, functionality, and the use of natural mate- rials, especially wood.
Marklund is best known for his work with Swedish furniture manu- facturer Furusnickarn AB, and in general, for his contributions to
the rustic pine furniture trend, which became popular in Sweden during the 1970s. His designs typically featured clean lines and solid construction, often using pine to create a warm, natural aesthetic that was both durable and affordable.
Though not as internationally famous as some of his contempora- ries, Marklund’s work was influential in Swedish domestic interiors during the mid-20th century.
