About the Item

This is an old Japanese primitive-style stool, crafted in the mid-Shōwa period (1950s–1970s). Though simple in form, it carries a distinctive and compelling presence. Made from a single block of Japanese cedar (sugi), it was carefully hand-carved by an artisan to preserve the natural character of the wood while ensuring everyday practicality. The soft, flowing grain of the cedar envelops the entire piece, while the deepened tones developed over time quietly speak of its history and natural beauty. The warmth you feel when touching the surface and the fine annual rings etched into the wood reveal a one-of-a-kind landscape drawn by nature itself. Its unique form balances the raw vitality of the wood with the artisan’s sensibility, bringing a subtle yet profound depth to any simple interior. Adding to its charm is the hand-carved grip, designed for ease of movement. This makes it easy to carry and reposition in daily life, allowing it to serve multiple purposes: as a stool, a stand for displaying a flower vase or decorative object, or even as a small bedside table. The timeworn patina of the cedar and the slight natural wear embody the Japanese spirit of wabi-sabi—finding beauty in imperfection and the passage of time. Seat size: approx. 280 mm × 230 mm Weight: 6 kg __________________________ Our Philosophy Objects always tell the truth. All I can do is just to face with them sincerely and give them deep affection as much as I can. There is no boundary of nationalities and of eras in beauty. But I think now is the time we choose 'Japanese style' and it will be the best way to remind us of what we are losing today and to question us about an essence of beauty again. I hope that you can touch the memories which the objects here have, feel and think of something invisible but exists undoubtedly.
