Mid 19th Century Rosewood Salon Stool

About the Item

A Very Good Quality Mid 19th Century, Victorian Period, Rosewood Salon Stool Having Upholstered Top Over Attractive Moulded And Carved Frame Raised On Four Elegant Carved Cabriole Legs. A charming mid 19th century victorian stool which is of typical form for the mid victorian period and is constructed from high quality, dense, well figured rosewood timbers. These timbers have been very well carved and the overall decorative look created is particularly nice. The upholstery featured on top is in very good condition, perhaps 20 years or so old and works well on the stool. There are a few very minor old marks and scuffs upon very close inspection but nothing immediately obvious or aesthetically displeasing. Perfect for a host of spaces around the home, this stool is also something which could be used for a whole host of different purposes aside from just the original obvious intention as a stool. Many people would consider purchasing a tray to place on top and then using a stool of this design and proportions as a coffee type table. Overall it is in really good sound condition and ready for immediate placement within the home having been inspected at our workshops by our trained antique furniture restorer and received a natural wax polish before being placed on sale. Sometimes referred to as coffin stools (although this was much more of a 19th century trend for their usage as opposed to their original purpose in earlier times) the humble antique joint stool was by far the most common form of seating in 16th and 17th century England. Indeed they were made in relatively vast quantities and almost every house would have a selection of them on hand in a variety of difference sizes and heights so that they could be used as required.
